Beautiful

“As I soar through the murky mist of my vague memories, I find traces of her reminiscences dissipated throughout my memory lane. I can listen to her whispers, feel the warmth of her breath and see her smile mystically.

It seems like yesterday when I saw a fairy tale princess gleaming with divine aura. She looked like a rose in the wet rain, appeared as fresh as morning dew, smelt like jasmine, innocent as the moon and sweeter than honey. I was spell bound by her charm. Her skin reflected her charisma, her eyes spoke of her innocence and her lips were as red as wine. Her hair swung through the air like a fabric of silk and her body was molded like a French sculpture. She looked beautiful. But, was she really beautiful?”

‘Beautiful’- the word itself stimulates our visual sensation and our mind portrays an abstract yet vivid image of the subject with colors of fantasy. More than often we talk about the way we look and the way people look. We are so conscious of our physical appearance and always try to enhance our external look in order to make ourselves desirable. But have we ever tried to find out the true meaning of the word beautiful. Beauty is not perfection and perfection is not beautiful. Even God is not a perfectionist, that’s why he made the world, the people who are not perfect. If God had made everything perfect then nothing would have been beautiful.

When we talk about beauty, it’s the heart, the soul that counts. It is people’s perception that really matters. We always associate beauty with what we see but we never realize that the things we see do not last forever. Everything withers with time. Nothing is permanent- the way we look, the way other people look, places, buildings everything. Change is inevitable. So how can we associate such temporary things with beauty? Isn’t beauty long lasting, divine, unchanged and unaffected by the cruelty of time. The only thing that remains unchanged is one’s morals, ethics, behavior and spirit within. No matter what goes on this world, our soul, our belief remains the same.
